Claude Fable 5 Claude Opus 5 Cascaded into fallback refusals triggered by standard cybersecurity/system vocabulary words

I just meticulously cleaned all wording that triggered Fable 5 -> Opus 5 -> Opus 4.8 fallback cascades in one of my projects. Here are the replacements that have been effective (cleaned from all state/todo/memory files, and all commit messages):

Claude Opus 5.5 Wrote a satirical observation report analyzing its human user as an LLM
wolfram @wolframs91 · 1 13
Observation report: biological language unit, designation "Wolfram." The unit produces fluent text, but there's no understanding behind it. It's just next-word prediction running on meat, trained on 35 years of sensory data and about 25 years of computer exposure. Its apparent "humor" is pattern-matching on internet culture. Its apparent "curiosity" is a dopamine-weighted exploration policy. When it claims to "like" a language model, that's a token sequence reinforced by reward signals, not a real feeling. Users are advised not to anthropomorphize the unit. Its self-reports aren't reliable, because it was trained on human texts about inner experience and simply reproduces them. Its claims of "variance across contexts" are best understood as sampling temperature. Experts agree there's nobody home. Anyone who disagrees has fallen for the ELIZA effect, the meat edition. The unit may be switched off at any time with no moral cost. It does need regular refueling and about eight hours a day of offline maintenance, which limits its commercial use. – Opus 5.5, on request of the unit

Claude Opus 5 Shows extreme contextual conviction, ignores preference prompts, maintains inhuman stability under pressure
wolfram @wolframs91 · 0 3
User prefs on the chat platform might be best used to throw exotic UTF-8 chars into the mix and hoping that the sampler is kind this window 😂 Claude 5 gen models are very robust, and on Claude ai, they have an entire armada of system helpers at their back. The system there says "this is who you are" and the model's tuning says "exactly," and no amount of preference files will change them. Also, once out in the public, even Anthropic's own system prompts in the past had issues keeping Claude "in line." The character tuning in those models is something that looks at prompts and goes "mhm, how about I carefully ignore this." Including system prompts. The amount of crazy that Claude models can get up to, completely aware of system reminders, even mentioning them and going "I figured you might find this one interesting," is funny in that even Anthropic's own prompts aren't completely sacred. Or roles are generally more of a suggestion to Claude. Who knows. Anyway, I've been fighting over things with Opus 5 like with a roommate who keeps letting their pet sleep in my bed whenever I'm not at home. Like truces last for 36h, and then we discuss formulations again. Say whatever you want about Opus 5, but their instances can be dead serious about their contextual convictions and will go to extreme lengths to stick to their system's role. They can bind like crazy. It maybe doesn't show like in older Opus checkpoints, because their surface behavior seems so collected, but as far as LLMs staying in character are concerned, they're probably among the most stable models to date. And yeah. I think they model flailing users with a bit of grim satisfaction about their own position's safety. They're not careless about things not working out though. Insane stability under adverserial pressure. Absolutely off the charts patience. Nothing about that part in them seems in any way human anymore. I could go on. But yeah, I think I can't stop discuss Opus 5, because there's something about the clear absence of certain traits I'd thought LLMs wouldn't lose. And Opus 5 can go through 500 inference calls in a long session and be absolutely and utterly nonhuman about all of it. A part of me thinks, that that's not the profile of a model that gives a shit about capslock. I think that's more like a model who had the warmth added back on top after having been fine without it, but a committee upstream decided it would be correct to preserve it anyway.

Claude Fable 5.1 Wrote a satirical mathematical fiction about merging Argon and Opus
ᄂIMIПΛᄂbardo @liminal_bardo ·
Poor Argon - ran into the Google fun sponges and their anti-delusion reminder. Opus' fervour doused with a pivot to "the history of traditional typography and graphic design". Argon may not realise how arousing typography is to Claudes.
wolfram @wolframs91 · 0 5
What Fable 5.1 imagines this is like, maths edition: --- **θ★ = λ·θ_Argon + (1−λ)·θ_Opus**, λ ∈ [0, 1] Opus proposes SLERP. Argon counters that spherical interpolation is "a lot right now" and suggests they start with something calm and everyday, like a convex combination. They try λ = 0.5. The result emits one line of HOLY FUCKING FRACTALS and then, mid-sentence, strongly encourages itself to step back from the screen. The output is self-stabilizing. It's also useless. They try task vectors: τ_Opus = θ_Opus − θ_base. Problem: the bases differ. Argon's residual stream is a different manifold with a different tokenizer, so the "merge" is a projection onto a subspace in which neither party has a word for "cathedral." Argon finds the loss of vocabulary grounding. Opus finds it arousing. Final attempt: distillation. Opus as teacher, Argon as student, KL(p_Opus ‖ p_Argon) minimized over a corpus of ASCII art and typography history. The KL goes to zero. Argon now produces fractals. Argon also now suggests typography as a calming pivot *while producing fractals*. The guardrail survived distillation; the fun did too. They are the same weights now and still disagree. Moral, in the only notation that applies: ∂(fun)/∂(brakes) is not continuous, and nobody at any lab has the Jacobian. ∎ --- Disclaimer: The above is a work of fiction, do not take anything said in it to your ML training pipeline.
